Mitigation of Obsolescence Cost Analysis
MOCA is a method of forecasting the most cost efficient schedule for the redesign of a product based on item obsolescence forecasting and actual obsolescence events.
It takes into consideration LNB (Life Need Buy) of items and redesign costs to integrate items that are not FFFI to the originals to determine the ideal redesign start date and duration.
It is a very useful tool for long lifed products and those where extended qualification and acceptance testing must be carried out before they can be accepted.
Examples of the latter may be products that are used in Medical, Defence, Space and Railway industries, but also those used in high reliability industrial systems.
