A process that examines an item through a destructive process that renders the item unusable.
An example is the removal of the epoxy body of a semiconductor, perhaps with fuming nitric acid, to enable the silicon within to be examined.
The item will no longer function as originally intended.
This is a process typically used to compare the silicon die with a known original to determine whether it is counterfeit.
