The Design Authority of a product is the Person/Department responsible for all aspects of a product, from circuit design, component selection, product modification, Design for Manufacture, Design for Test, Obsolescence Management, etc.

During the design phase, this rests with the design team. Once the design has passed the final New Product ‘Gate’, the product Design Authority passes to the Product Life Management team (see PLM).
