Bjoern Bartels

Bjoern Bartels is managing director of AMSYS, a company specializing in cutting-edge obsolescence management solutions. He holds a Master’s degree in International Business and a German Diploma in Industrial Engineering. With extensive consulting experience, Bjoern has successfully assisted hundreds of customers across industries in developing, implementing, and optimizing tailored reactive and proactive obsolescence management strategies, all now digitized in his company’s software product.
He played a key role in the creation and maintenance of IEC 62402 and VDMA 24903 (smartPCN), the leading standards for managing obsolescence and facilitating information exchange related to product changes and discontinuations.
At AMSYS, Bjoern oversees the implementation of the Life Cycle Management (LCM) Client Software for customers across diverse industries. This powerful tool simplifies life cycle and obsolescence management by automating obsolescence and supply-chain alerts, integrating data sources to track product life cycle forecasts, and aggregating internal customer data for tailored risk assessments and reporting. It also supports streamlined internal workflows and communication between suppliers and customers, helping businesses proactively address obsolescence before it disrupts operations.
Beyond AMSYS and his leadership in various technical committees, Bjoern is a business partner of the Component Obsolescence Group (COG) and an Endorsed Trainer for the International Institute of Obsolescence Management (IIOM), providing professional development, training, and certification across the supply chain.
Bjoern’s commitment to the field is further demonstrated through numerous academic contributions, including a 290-page publication in collaboration with the CALCE Engineering Institute at the University of Maryland, titled “Strategies to the Prediction, Mitigation, and Management of Product Obsolescence.”
