I have an electrical component around 2 cms long with a single black line around the center – what is it?

This sounds like a zero ohm resistor. That is basically just a piece of wire so why make it into a component? The answer is that it is easier for manufacturing robots to work with. It resembles other components that they are already designed to work with..
